Pump types & applications

Begin with the installation and duty, then ask for a suitable model.

“Submersible” describes equipment intended to operate submerged in a liquid. It does not mean that every pump suits a borewell, an open well or dirty water. Start with the source and the water conditions.

Borewell water

A borewell installation needs a pump and motor that fit the actual bore and supply the required flow at the calculated head. Give the supplier the internal bore diameter, total depth, pumping water level and proposed setting depth. These measurements describe different things.

  • State the required flow with its unit.
  • Record delivery elevation, pipe length/diameter and required outlet pressure.
  • Describe known sand, sediment and water conditions.
  • Ask for the selected model’s curve and permitted operating conditions.

Farm irrigation

Irrigation is an application, not one universal pump model. Tell the supplier whether water goes to an open outlet, a tank, drip lines or sprinklers. State the flow, operating schedule and required system pressure. Include seasonal changes in the water source where known.

For an open-well or tank source, ask specifically for equipment designed for that arrangement. A borewell pumpset should not be assumed suitable just because its HP is similar.

Building water supply

Describe where the water starts and where it must arrive. Include the receiving tank elevation, pumping water level, pipe route, required flow and available phase/voltage/frequency. If the task includes pressure at an outlet, make that condition explicit.

Compare the complete package

Ask for pump and motor model details, the matched starter, protections, cable and pipe scope, installation responsibilities and written warranty conditions. Only the actual supplier can confirm availability and commercial terms for the proposed equipment.

Use the quotation checklist and read how head differs from borewell depth.
